Welcome to TOC Talk Burnaby - a virtual "staff room" for Teachers On Call (TOCs) in the Burnaby School District.
This is a place for Burnaby TOCs to ask questions, tell about their experience, post great ideas and share stories! Here are a few other ways to stay up to date: * BTA TOC webpage on www.burnabyteachers.com * BTA TOC Committee meetings held once a month on Wednesdays
Note: This list is intended for individuals who are presently employed as TOCs in Burnaby, primarily BTA members. BTA executive members are also encouraged and invited to be members of the list. Photo Credit: Jean Shin, Clothesline (White Oxford Shirts), 2003 |

Having a virtual "staff room" for TOCs is a great idea!
ReplyDeleteI agree - it's about time Burnaby TOCs had a support group and equalities :). I hope this will be the beginning of beautifully new relationships.
ReplyDeleteIs this the place to collect information about how the call out is working? I didn't work on Monday because the machine calls kept clicking off. How often is this happening for other people? It's the third time for me. On Tuesday I didn't work because the calls weren't forwarded to my cell phone as they were supposed to do. So that's two "refused " call outs this week!
ReplyDeleteHI, Elizabeth. And Welcome! It's Charlene, the Chair of the TOC Committee. At the March 14 TOC Cttee meeting we discussed who will take this info from TOCs effective April 1st (the new callout effective date). Our president said that any TOC who experiences difficulty with the callout system should immediately contact the BTA and the EMPLOYER. The important thing is to keep the information as a record in writing. As far as I know, the BTA hasn't designated any one person at the BTA to be responsible for the collection of this info, so because the pres. is the attending Table Officer to the TOC Cttee., I would suggest that you contact him (e-mail or phone - see burnabyteachers.com) with any difficulties, i.e. the above or other, as of April 1st.
DeleteThe BTA is to compile this information to share with the TOC Ad Hoc Committee, whose purpose is to then advise the BTA on the callout system (a mouthful, for sure :). This new callout will be up for review in one year.
Next, however, along with the above, so that we can all share this information, you have inspired me to create a new page on this blog, "Is the Callout Working for You?" This will be a place I hope many TOCs will come to; it will be of vital importance that this new working condition is scrutinized by all and out in the open where we can clearly see exactly what is happening to all of us.
Please do come back again, and tell your friends!

I got a call from ADS at 6:30 am today. The signal was weak and breaking. I couldn't hear most words. I pushed #1 two times to figure out the school's name. The signal was dying, so I quickly pushed on #4 to accept but then I heard absolutely nothing! I waited for my land phone to ring, which is my back up line. No ringing! I rushed to the computer hoping that my acceptance was registered! Nope! I called D. and left a message. At 7:15 am I called her again! She said that she has to do an audit to see what happened! She said that she had pages of names who called looking for work for today!
