Good Morning, Ms. Joly:
ReplyDeleteRe: TOC New Callout Difficulty
I am writing as a TOC reporting a difficulty with the new callout I encountered this morning, and with 2 questions.
Last night I was booked for a PM-only assignment through the ADS starting at "12:10 P.M."
This morning, I was requested for an AM-only assignment at a different school and I accepted it via my home phone (approx. 5:13 A.M.)
When I checked the assignment online - it said the morning assignment ended at "12:00 P.M."
There is no way I could have travelled between assignments and schools in the 10 minutes between assignments, so I clicked on
"Cancel" and cancelled the assignment.
Question #1:
Shouldn't the ADS disallow this oversight in offering assignments? I know from previous instances of the above that teachers booking with the
ADS can enter their own times into the system, and Diane, who does the manual callouts, has had to make manual changes to callout
times in order to allow a TOC to accept 2 assignments on the same day; they were in fact possible, but the teacher(s) had punched in times
that made them impossible.
Question #2:
Will this forced cancellation of the assignment count as a "Refusal" toward my availability status?
Thank you very much for a response.

DeleteAnswer from S.J. at the board office Apr 03/12:
This problem will be looked into immediately and, "Of course this will not count as a refusal."
I had a problem a week ago Monday. It was another case of being called only to listen to the call out machine click off after a few minutes of silence. I missed another call because it didn't phone my cell phone when I was away from home. I'll bet TOCs are missing a call every week or two...at least. I agree that we need a central place, like this blog, to record everything wrong with the call out system. I'd also encourage everyone to forego being anonymous. This is a secure way of sharing information. Remaining anonymous makes me feel like we live in a police state!
ReplyDeleteCheers,
Liz Wilson
I, too, had a rather persistent problem last year with the ADS not calling my cell - only my home phone; I inquired with the TOC office (Diane) and on investigation, was told that the machine was, in fact, calling my cell when my cell showed otherwise :(.
DeleteI have a new cell phone this year - and since September have received many phone calls just like you, Liz: I answer and it clicks off after a few minutes of silence. I thought it was me not knowing how to work my new 'smart phone'!
I am going to start a written log for myself, and contact HR immediately if I have further evidence.
Thanks so much for sharing, Elizabeth.
Re: DEFINITION OF 'UNAVAILABLE'
** I urge everyone who experiences either problem to record it; e-mail Shannon Joly in HR and cc Richard, our president at the BTA, who is to keep written record of all callout difficulties to support the Review which is to happen in May 2013; share all HERE for an open, written record .
I realized that I had posted this in the wrong spot!

I got a call from ADS at 6:30 am today. The signal was weak and breaking. I couldn't hear most words. I pushed #1 two times to figure out the school's name. The signal was dying, so I quickly pushed on #4 to accept but then I heard absolutely nothing! I waited for my land phone to ring, which is my back up line. No ringing! I rushed to the computer hoping that my acceptance was registered! Nope! I called D. and left a message. At 7:15 am I called her again! She said that she has to do an audit to see what happened! She said that she had pages of names who called looking for work for today!
